ZACTRAN [250 mL]
Zactran is for subcutaneous injection in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle only. Do not for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older or in calves to be processed for veal. Indicated for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni and Mycoplasma bovis. Broad-spectrum antibiotic rapidly reaches the site of infection (the lungs) where it kills bacteria and stops them from replicating.
Beef:
Shipping fever, bronchial pneumonia, bovine respiratory disease, whatever term you’re most familiar with, the problem is the same – BRD. But you can manage the risk with ZACTRAN (gamithromycin). A single injection provides 10-day BRD treatment and control that’s both effective and economical.
Dairy:
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) creates big risks for dairy calves and heifers. Even those that recover from it can have growth, fertility and milk production deficits for life. BRD affects not only your calves and heifers – but also your bottom line – hard. You can manage the risk with ZACTRAN (gamithromycin). A single injection provides 10-day BRD treatment and control that’s both effective and economical.
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) develops because of complex interactions between environmental factors, host factors and pathogens. Environmental factors, such as weaning, transport, commingling and crowding serve as stressors that affect the immune system. In addition, environmental factors, including dust, temperature, moisture and inadequate ventilation can enhance the transmission among animals.
Many infectious agents have been associated with BRD. Viral infection may compromise the animal’s defense mechanisms, allowing colonization of the lower respiratory tract by bacteria (Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni and Mycoplasma bovis) that are already present in calves’ upper respiratory tracts.
Directions: Administer one dose at a rate of 2 ml per 110 lbs. SQ in the neck, not to exceed 10 ml per injection site. Zactran is not for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, or in calves to be processed for veal.
