Use in cattle for the control of respiratory infections due to M. haemolytica, P. multocida and H. somni susceptible to Florfenicol. Norfenicol reaches peak therapeutic levels within 30 minutes post injection; remains therapeutically active in the blood for a minimum of 60 hours. Labeled for subcutaneous or intramuscular injections allowing flexible administration routes. Broad-spectrum, effective antibiotic with both bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity against the major pathogens of BRD.
Norfenicol (Florfenicol) Injectable Solution for Cattle is an antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and foot rot and for the control of respiratory disease in cattle at high risk for developing BRD. Each ml of Norfenicol Injectable Solution contains 300 mg florfenicol. For treatment of BRD or foot rot, the recommended dosage is 3 ml per 100 lbs. body weight, given by IM injection. A second dose should be given 48 hours later. Alternatively, Norfenicol can be administered once by SQ injection of 6 ml per 100 lbs. For control of respiratory disease in cattle at high risk for BRD, administer 6 ml per 100 lbs., given SQ in the neck.
BRD Treatment - Norfenicol Injectable Solution is indicated for treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD), associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Histophilus somni (Haemophilus somnus).
BRD Control - Norfenicol Injectable Solution is also indicated for the control of respiratory disease in cattle at high risk of developing BRD associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Histophilus somni (Haemophilus somnus).
Foot Rot Treatment - Norfenicol Injectable Solution is indicated for the treatment foot rot (acute interdigital necrobacillosis, infectious pododermatitis) associated with Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus.
Directions: For treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and bovine interdigital phlegmon (foot rot): Norfenicol Injectable Solution should be administered by intramuscular injection to cattle at a dose rate of 20 mg/kg body weight (3 mL/100 lbs). A second dose should be administered 48 hours later. Alternatively, Norfenicol Injectable Solution can be administered by a single subcutaneous (SC) injection to cattle at a dose rate of 40 mg/kg body weight (6 mL/100 lbs). Do not administer more than 10 mL at each site. The injection should be given only in the neck.
Note: Intramuscular injection may result in local tissue reaction which persists beyond 28 days. This may result in trim loss of edible tissue at slaughter. Tissue reaction at injection sites other than the neck is likely to be more severe. For use in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle only. Not for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, or in calves to be processed for veal.
