Magrath Fluid Feeder [Gallon] (Plastic Probe)

This 1-gallon Magrath Fluid Feeder permits one-handed administration of colostrum and life-saving fluids to newborn calves. With a probe and a yellow thumb valve, fluid feeder allows the user to stop the flow while inserting the esophageal tube, a feature designed to help prevent accidental insertion into the trachea. Fluid flows into the calf when the semi-flexible bottle is turned upright.

The Magrath Fluidfeeder provides a practical, easy-to-use tool for providing fluids and nourishment to calves that can't or won't nurse. Large capacity 1-gallon tube can accommodate older calves or multiple feedings. The 24-inch esophageal probe is the correct size for calves, and if used properly, the probe's size and shape do not allow it to be inserted into the trachea, reducing the danger of getting fluid into lungs and drowning the calf. Crimp valve allows easy control of fluid; rate of flow is slow enough to cause the calf to form saliva freely, which is necessary for proper digestion. Heavy-duty tube resists punctures and tears and remains flexible down to 0 degrees F. (-18 degrees C.). Bottle collapses without venting, and check valve keeps air out as liquid leaves the bottle. Bottle, tube, and probe are easy to clean.

Directions: Pour measured amount of feed product into bottle. Add correct amount of water. Cover bottle and shake to mix contents. (Probe Style Only) Insert probe into calf's mouth guiding gently toward the calf's left side, staying on top of the tongue. The probe 'finds it's own way" to the esophageal opening. Note: Keep fluid out of probe during insertion into mouth and esophagus. (Nipple Style Only) Secure calf between your legs and put nipple in calf's mouth. Squeeze nipple between your finger and the calf's tongue until the calf starts to suck the nipple. Elevate the bottle, allowing fluid to enter the probe and to subsequently the esophagus and stomach of the calf. Note: Allow gravity to empty fluid from bottle. This usually takes about 3 minutes. Do not squeeze bottle while feeding.
