EXCEDE (ceftiofur crystalline free acid) Sterile Suspension is the first and only FDA-approved antibiotic for horses that offers a full course of therapy in just two doses. EXCEDE reduces the treatment requirements from 10 once-or twice-daily doses of an oral antibiotic, such as trimethoprim-sulfonamide (TMS), to just two doses. This can make treating equine respiratory infections less stressful for the horse and more convenient for the veterinarian and the horse owner. Excede Sterile Suspension is a ready-to-use formulation that contains the crystalline free acid of ceftiofur, which is a broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including ß-lactamase-producing strains. Like other cephalosporins, ceftiofur is bactericidal, in vitro, resulting from inhibition of cell wall synthesis.

EXCEDE (ceftiofur crystalline free acid) Sterile Suspension is a ready-to-use, single-dose formulation that provides up to seven days of therapy for treatment and control of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and treatment of bovine foot rot. EXCEDE Sterile Suspension is also indicated for the treatment of acute metritis (zero to 10 days postpartum) associated with bacterial organisms susceptible to ceftiofur in lactating dairy cattle.
Indications
EXCEDE Sterile Suspension is indicated for treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD, shipping fever, pneumonia) associated with Mannheimia haemolytica; Pasteurella multocida; Histophilus somni; and foot rot in beef, nonlactating dairy and lactating dairy cattle. EXCEDE also controls respiratory disease in beef and nonlactating dairy cattle which are at high risk of developing BRD associated with M. haemolytica, P. multocida and H. somni.
